Leonardo da Vinci noted link between gravity and acceleration centuries before Einstein ( arstechnica.com )
Engineers re-created one of Leonardo’s experiments with a modern apparatus and found he produced a value for the gravitational constant, G, to around 97 percent accuracy. What makes this finding even more astonishing is that Leonardo achieved this without a means of accurate timekeeping and without the benefit of calculus,...

Cytoplasmic lattices (bundles of fibres floating in the cytoplasm) in mammalian egg cells seem to be storage sites for many proteins that are essential for the development of the early embryo. The discovery indicates that their absence, which can be determined by genetic testing, would point towards infertility of the eggs....

'Not of faculty quality': How Penn mistreated Nobel Prize-winning researcher Katalin Karikó ( www.thedp.com )
In the discussion I read elsewhere, people wondered if the way funds are granted would change and advocated for it. I don’t think a system that can say they profit greatly from the status quo will ever care. I also remember how public funding were denied to researchers and then cut without all of it being used.
