So. If the so-called leaders were serious, they would

  • prohibit private jets right away
  • prohibit cruise ships right away
  • stop luxury yachts same way
  • limit air traffic dramatically
  • make travelling by train really cheap
  • and THEN and only then can they start to encourage people to do something about their lifestyles like travelling less etc.

It's real. Individual action does absolutely nothing.

@Syphilia I don't think flat out banning them is necessary if you put a fat tax on using them. Would make it easier to pay for cheap train tickets 🙂

@AimeeMaroux @Syphilia True about the train ticket subsidy but you'd still be enabling the super rich people's wasteful lifestyle.

@irina @Syphilia If they pay the equivalent of the damage caused and then some, I think it would be OK.

@AimeeMaroux @Syphilia Money doesn't undo the damage.

@irina @Syphilia It doesn't, for the most part, but still I think working with taxes where it makes sense is the better approach as it allows the financing of other measures.

@AimeeMaroux @Syphilia yeah, rather than ban things, it would be better to tax things based on their detriment to society and use the money for social benefits. Using private jets should pay for good passenger rail service.
