Another stunning object from yesterday's visit to the National Museum Copenhagen:
A enamel-painted glass cup found in a burial of a man at Himlingøje, 3rd c. AD. Vessels like this are known as circus cups because they are decorated with images of animals hunted in the arena during the venationes (hunting spectacles). The cups were a product of workshops in the Rhineland.
