Oh! It looks like the settings have changed from the original idea and it's automatic opt-in. That's fine. I'm happy for my public toots to be part of the full text search.

@Kitty @thomas hm, that wasn't the case for me. Opt-out was activated at first, I needed to remove the check to opt in.

@TheWarlock666 @derthomas @Kitty oh, watch out! The option in the screenshot is not about the internal Mastodon search, but about the web search (Google, Bing,...).

It's confusing. The option about the internal search is not available in the settings, yet. It will be there as soon as Mastodon 4.2 is deployed on this server :) maybe today or tomorrow.

The confusion is perfect since 1) there's an "opt-out of search engine indexing" option as well (with different meaning) and 2) there has been "mini" full text search already. 😫 😀

@Kitty @thomas @TheWarlock666 oh, this is indeed very confusing... So currently thr contents are indexed, but not searchable? Because yesterday I did find my lost Haken toot via search, which I never managed to do before... 🤔

You were using "old" / mini full text search, which is limited in its capabilities.

The new shiny one will be deployed with release 4.2.

@guddl yes, searching your own posts does already work :) (if enabled by the admin)
