I had a need to visit X a moment ago. I am pretty shocked by the amount of overt and explicit racism going on there. It seems to have become a point of pride.

I will likely be deleting the app soon, which breaks my heart, and I won’t see it, but knowing that millions of people are being steeped in that behavior and content is alarming.

@jerry that's why I'm grateful for infosec.exchange. As a #jewish Infosec professional, I'm much happier here.

patrick_townsend,

@jerry Yes, there is sadness when something good goes bad. For me the tug of positive memories of the past stirs sentimental regret and makes change harder. I wish I remembered more of Shakespeare, I am sure he spoke/wrote of this. Glad now I deleted my Twitter account.

@jerry

I don't know what you saw or who you're following or who they're interacting with.

I know for a fact there's racists on every platform.

That's no reason to stop using a service just because some of the users of it are racist.

The real reasons to stop using birdsite are because of its shitty privacy practices.

If they go through a lot of databreaches, like all the facebook-owned services do and they also collect all the intimate data they can from you life...yeah, that's why you should stop using a service.

@jerry

I haven't seen any racism there. Mostly because I'm not following any racists on there.

Being in favor of free speech means allowing people you hate to talk too.

The same laws that allow racists to say shitty things are the same laws that allow us to make fun of and call them stupid for being racist.

I don't like the direction the internet is going in. Too much shit is being monitored.

We're adults, we don't need a corporate nanny state to protect us from being offended

If you don't like what someone has to say you don't have to follow them or give their profiles any attention.

But because of free speech laws, you're allowed to criticize them and make video responses to them.

@jerry I recently deleted my account, and after 14 years of awesome career networking, dank memes, and even the final years of nothing but breaking news, it was heartbreaking. It was like a breakup. 😂 But X seems to be past the point of redemption.

@kimd if we keep going with the breakup analogy - they’ve moved on and I need to as well now.

@jerry X feels like it is now whipping all the worst people into frenzy. And quite a few who at least feigned being reasonable, are joining in.

@jerry maybe we are just too woke and they are telling it how it is?

Or maybe they are just cunts.

jerry,

@jonoabroad from their perspective, they are “telling it like it is”, but it is wrong - just like people who believe the earth is flat and space is fake are wrong, yet they incessantly flap their mouths about it online. There are people who are just like that, but my concern is that others they are indoctrinating
