I suppose it's not rocket surgery to figure out which is the real me here. How/should one report these kinds of things for investigation? I never much cared on Twitter about imposters because reporting them never did anything. These are all using my Twitter photo for profile pics.
@briankrebs Those instances are automated bots that just mirror Twitter accounts to mastodon. They're not malicious impersonation, but the whole idea is pretty spammy.
@malwaretech@briankrebs I block these as people report them, but the issue is that they’re still available for everyone else on other instances. As far as I know, there is no one monitoring reports on those cross poster domains, so it basically falls on deaf ears.
@untitaker@malwaretech@briankrebs there are blocklists that track all the known cross poster instances, and there are some that block those. I floated the idea at one point and was met with significant pushback, because many people use it to follow people and organizations that haven’t yet or won’t move.
@jerry@malwaretech@briankrebs I use bird.markup to follow some twitter accounts. The tech twitter migration was pretty complete (with a few notable exceptions), but my local city politics follows are still there (though I noticed a couple migrated in the last couple weeks after the ADL stuff).
As I’ve said before, lots of people want to leave the Xitter social network, but keep some of the social graph. I don’t begrudge anyone that wants to block them, but I’m glad @jerry hasn’t gone that route.
