@harriorrihar significant changes to… what? Fedi is not a single "thing." Some things will change for some people.

They are firing up their own instance, which can be expected to quickly become much bigger than any existing fedi instance. They don't need to "buy out" fedi instances to do what they please.

Meanwhile, plenty of instances will not federate with Meta, and Meta will have no access to that space.
