@heyfluxay I've never understood the love for Mint. It's whole thing was people didn't like Gnome 3, so they made their own fork of Gnome 2. But if you don't like Gnome 3, why not just go Kubuntu with KDE Plasma?
I say go with Ubuntu until you have first-hand reason why you don't want Ubuntu.
