Hello fellow programmers,...
I had a bunch of personal scripts to manage my music database. Maybe 10-sh scripts, max a few hundred lines long, nothing too big. A little while ago, I wrapped them into a big emacs org file for literate programming, and to tangle them, so I could easily edit them in one place. Backed them up to at least three servers, both...
This thread delves into contemplating the concept of “Melosynthos,” more aligned towards being a compiler generator rather than strictly a parser generator....
Honestly all this world looks really overwhelming, there’s too much stuff going on: each program uses its own languages, its own compilers, uses different tools, libraries, dependencies, package managers and frameworks. You need specific instructions and documentation to learn new stuff at every single thing you deal with....

Im making an android app with flutter as a little side project. I am not really a great designer and I struggle to come up with designs for the user interface....
Hello Everyone,...
How far did you proceed and what language did you use?...
Im considering spending some serious time learning one of the above. Two principle engineers I work with exclusively use them, and watching them work is incredible, the speed they move and get things done is pure wizadry. Can anyone learn this skill? For what it’s worth, the alternative is learning VScode. I’ve exclusive...
So after reading a number of posts and comments on here about Linux, I've decided to give 'er a go. I have access to an Azure VM, but I have never done anything involving Unix before and have only a basic understanding of coding in general....
Hello! I've been a hobbyist programmer for a couple years, and now I want to turn this hobby into my day job. I find Android a fascinating platform so I've started my learning path. Google search, pointed me to google developer codelabs, and they pretty fun!...
Good explanation of the difference between work efficiency and step efficiency when talking about parallel algorithms.
I ask because I like console, but at the same time have difficulties remembering all the commands. I'd like to try a GUI that is comfortable to use with only a keyboard....
I want to start a discussion of MIT vs GPL and see what you all think
Hello all,...
I can’t remember where I came across this website, but I love it and wanted to pass it along for anyone else learning SQL right now!
Have you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes when you write a C program? How does your code transform from lines of text into a fully functional binary executable? If you’ve been curious about the intricacies of the C program compilation process, you’ve come to the right place.
The primary application at my job was…not well written. Originally .NET Framework 3.5 with a strange collection of approaches to MVC. SQL Server for data. I claimed it look like something written by CS students fresh out of college on their first job. Turned out I was close…it was written by 3rd-year CS interns. We’ve...

Some friends and I are trying to learn Haxe together by working on a simple game. We’re all like pretty much total amateurs at this stuff. For collaborating I set us up a repo for it on Gitlab, and I’ve been trying to run the actual code through Gitpod, but I can’t get it to work… Has anyone else done this successfully?...
In many projects, you might have custom DNS entries, for example for your development environment, or because something is prototype without a real DNS entry yet, or simply for convenience to not remember weird IP addresses....
