I highlighted the relevant parts of papers and chapters, and after went through them to take the quotes I needed while writing my theoretical framework.
Some guidelines say you should first extract the exact quotes you are going to use. For me it didn’t work because I couldn’t remember the quote context in all cases.
I don’t think my method is better. It just worked for me. I would say trust in what worked for you in past dissertations.
