I've switched my #task management system from #Todoist to #Obsidian and back several times over the past year.
And now I have a confession to make. I think I have chosen, and my choice is Todoist...
@seo11@msemochkin@obsidianmd OmniFocus for tasks here, but the idea that one tool can do everything really well seems silly to me. Cross linking was invented for a reason …
@msemochkin@Colman@seo11@obsidianmd i was pretty sceptical of the idea too, especially if you have (fantastic!) single-purpose task managers like Things. But honestly: I haven’t used Things in a while, i collect reference material and take notes in #Logseq anyway, so it seems actually unintuitive to move tasks to another app. I also do a lot less task micromanagement now.
@fleg@msemochkin@seo11@obsidianmd Things never gelled for me. The point being that the detail of these choices are as personal as of an art medium or musical instrument or fountain pen or rollerball or ball point or whatever.
@seo11@obsidianmd Given Obsidian's rich ecosystem of plugins, it's been a long time since Obsidian has been more than just a "app for notes". Rather, it's a framework for building PKMs.
@msemochkin@seo11@obsidianmd true, sort of. I mean you do you, but there’s a point where I think I’m spending huge amounts of effort replicating 80% of the value of a more specialised app and the friction is getting in the way.
@msemochkin@obsidianmd I just use Drafts for quick capture on iOS and dump it all into Obsidian. I largely avoid doing much “management” of tasks on my phone at all now.
@productnook@msemochkin@obsidianmd if Drafts had a proper Android app, unlike their limited web version, I'd be using it as my main thought/task capture app.
@productnook@msemochkin@obsidianmd I mostly use Simplenote for thoughts and Todoist for tasks. I wish there was a solution for this as sometimes I don't know if what I'm making note of is a task or not.
More of a work-around than a solution, but I use Automate on Android to add a widget to my screen that when tapped executes the flow in the screenshot.
Basically it just brings up a single text entry box and whatever I type gets appended to an obsidian file with some meta data to add context. I have it configured to go in to my daily note, but if used for GTD, it could go in to an Inbox.
@productnook@obsidianmd Yeah, me too. But it's still not as convenient as it could be. Tags, for example. They're important in my tasking system and it's not convenient to put them through Drafts.
But Drafts is great, that's a fact.
