Ohio votes on abortion rights this fall. Misinformation about the proposal is already spreading

The proposed constitutional amendment would give Ohioans the right to make their own reproductive decisions. Backers say that since Roe v. Wade was overturned last year by the U.S. Supreme Court, the proposal would restore a commonsense abortion protection that most Ohio voters can support.

But opponents argue it would do far more than that. Ads portray the amendment as a gateway to children getting abortions and gender-related surgeries without their parents’ consent. Opponents also have falsely suggested the amendment would open doors to protecting abusers and legalizing infanticide.

Even their manufactured outrage is maddening. Why aren’t these people more upset that the children are pregnant and possibly needing an abortion?!

Anti-abortion advocates had an opportunity to influence legislation that would resonate more with Ohioans yet instead they pushed the legislature and the govnor to put in the tone-deaf restrictive garbage that was entered into Ohio law through the legislature. When our leaders won’t listen to us, it falls to us via referendum to override them and put in laws that we agree with. Thats what we’re going to do this fall.

Misinformation or disinformation? It sounds nit picky, but there is a huge difference.

Those spreading misinformation are simply mistaken and possibly swayed by good information.

Those spreading disinformation are deliberately trying to deceive people.

Absolutely disinformation. These people don’t want to acknowledge that Ohioans want abortion and banning it has been disastrous.

You’re right. So I went looking for more info in the distinction and found this (concerning journalistic usage):

As dangerous as disinformation can be, journalists find themselves in a difficult position when investigating it. While politicians might say something that is obviously not true, journalists generally don’t outright accuse them of being a liar or spreading disinformation. This is because journalists cannot usually be 100% certain of the intent behind the misinformation, and they (and all writers) can be sued for libel if they wrongfully call someone a liar.

edit – In the 21st century our gov’ts continue to believe that being a liar is still better than accusing someone of lying … :/

Sounds like semantic discord when the end result has no difference.

While the process of getting somewhere is human, you don't get a pass because you spread either 'Mis/Dis-information'.

It's unfortunate that we even have to draw this arbitrary line in the sand thanks to Republican 'Alternative Facts', aka, propaganda by any other sense of the word.
