China’s security drive hits embassy activities, LGBT events, some diplomats say

Twenty envoys from 12 Western and Asian delegations told Reuters that in recent months they had noticed larger police presences around some diplomatic premises and increased attempts by Chinese authorities to intimidate embassy contacts and disrupt civic outreach endeavors, including LGBT and gender-themed events.

It’s been one of the better perks of this instance. The invite-only aspect makes it difficult to create lots of sock-puppet accounts which is probably a big part of what makes it unappealing to any sort of large scale troll-farm type of operations.
