When did you first get "hit" by music?
Do you remember the first time you really clicked with music? I remember being on a family vacation at 9 or 10, getting some sort of random Beatles “Hits” cassette tape at whatever gas station, and playing it nonstop in my off-brand Walkman. That was the first time I really felt music in my bones, and to this day few things...

I make melodic progressive house music. AMA!
I’m a small artist but do sign my work. I’ve been enjoying Lemmy for some time now and want to push this community to interact more and grow! So I thought one way I could contribute is to do a little AMA about what it’s like as a signed artist making house music :)

Johnny Cash Is a Hero to Americans on the Left and Right. But His Music Took a Side. ( slate.com )
In July and August of 1961, Johnny Cash recorded a batch of songs that became the basis for Blood, Sweat and Tears, a record many regard as merely a concept album about working people. But Blood, Sweat and Tears is a concept album about race in America, about the violent enforcement of racial hierarchies in America. It is the...

New rule suggestion: song posts must include at least genre and year
When people post a link to a song, there is no way to tell what kind of music it is or what period it’s from. To help engagement and the user experience, I suggest we require people to at least write the genre and year in the title of their post. Bonus points for adding some explanation in the body of the post about the...

Why do other guitarists dislike Jack White
Jack keeps proving that new riffs are endless. Many years ago, people were saying that classic hard rock is gone. Jack White shows up and proves everyone wrong and keeps doing it, IMO. Lazaretto is a good example, and it is heavily influenced by the 1980s.

What songs with a strong 80s/post punk influences but were recorded recently do you recommend?
As the title implies , I am a huge 80s postpunk/goth/coldwave fan, but I’m kind of tired of listening to the same artists over and over again. A good example of what I’m after would be Dimitri De Alencar’s “The Quicksand”....
Jason Aldean's 'Small Town' is part of a long legacy with a very dark side ( www.npr.org )
Jason Aldean’s “Try That in a Small Town,” which ignited controversy this week over claims that the song and its new video promote white supremacy and violence, is far from the first country song to attack cities using racist dog whistles. “Try That” is most clearly a descendant of Hank Williams Jr.‘s “A Country...
