In 2000-03 I was a weather observer at a regional airport in Ontario and completed my training in Hamilton. One of my classmates was a trained meteorologist. They told us that large manufacturers often head-hunted meteorology graduates so the company would know when they could burn banned substances through their stacks (where the wind would move the toxins away from sensors).

This has been going on for decades and everyone knew about it.
