…Because I only just read the first chapter, and I know it’s gonna throw me for a loop, but come on. This whole sequence of events feels like a parody of Westerns– Specifically the “everyone in a bar gets into a fight” trope. I feel like it’s playing out like a Three Stooges sketch....
Fathers and Sons by Turgenev (Richard Freeborn translation) is an interesting character study of Bazarov, a self-proclaimed nihilist in the backdrop of the ideological differences between the “fathers” and “sons”. The “fathers” and “sons” in the title refer to the two different generations of the liberals and the...

Anyone else have some spooky reads lined up for October? My bookclub is reading Frankenstein this month, which will be a nice change of pace from the usual fare. I’ve got Tender is the Flesh, Rouge, and Black Sheep lined up. I will probably get to The Haunting of Hill House as well, which I’m really excited to read! I just...
Hi, I read a lot of poetry in several different languages and for a while now I’ve been looking for poetry (preferably in Spanish) by contemporary uruguayan poets. I’ve read a lot of dead uruguayan poets, but I would like to get a better understanding for what is out there that is more current. I wonder if anybody has any...
I am new to exploring philosophy and began reading a history of philosophy book. The author notes that most of the summary is of western philosophy but does touch on some East Asian/Persian/Arabian philosophy. Is there a book with a decently accurate portrayal, without adding too much commentary?
I reported it as not working a day or two ago. They last updated it in 2021 or before but their support claims it’s still working. I stream using a single screen and so far I’ve been using the Steam overlay browser with some transparency but I’d like to be able to view chat without background with the text having borders...

Hey Beehaw (and friends)! What’re you reading?...
Hi guys, how’s it going? I’m trying to identify the source of a commonly cited quote by Lytton Strachey that goes as follows: “Perhaps the best test of a man’s intelligence is his capacity for making a summary.”...
So I have been buying my ebooks from Amazon for many years. I used to even have a Kindle Voyage for a few years (it got destroyed like two years ago, never bothered to replace)....
I had an interesting thought yesterday. I was pondering, what if some of the archaic literature we relied upon to document past events was actually fictional accounts intended to be read for leisure?...

Anyone else have a book (or books) that they want to read but just never seem to actually get around to reading? Any books you feel like you ought to read but never do?...
I want to hear about your favorite books that include heists as a major element. Bonus points if it's set in a fantasy, sci-fi, or non-contemporary setting. (Basically I want something like Gentleman Bastards that's not just rereading Gentleman Bastards)
Hey guys,...
Do you reread books or are you done with them once you’ve read them?...
I'm dragging myself through an "award-winning" "best-selling" "recommended" book I got from the library and wishing I hadn't. (Yes I know those phrases mean little and I can stop, though I'm nearing the end after hoping it would stop being so hopeless. Yes I can be naively optimistic ;) .) The characters and story are all...
