Hi Friendos,...
I’ve been recently getting into NixOS, and I really like the concept of the store, reproducible builds, and declarative configuration. It keeps things organized and clean. But there are certain aspects of its implementation that are kind of rough:...

I’ve noticed that when 6.6.1 came out and it came time to reboot after it installed, I couldn’t boot into the OS anymore, it simply hangs on a black screen for about 10-15 minutes then reboots after selecting it. I’m currently on the LTS kernel which is 6.1.67-1-lts (64-bit) with no issues. I figured after updating to the...

THE site “It’s FOSS” suggests alternatives to FOSS. At least half of those alternatives are NOT FOSS, so why bother? █
For context: I have an AMD GPU, so drivers will not be a problem. I’ll prefer whichever one has more up-to-date and frequently updated packages. Wayland is a must.
Finally migrated from Windows to Linux. For anyone wondering, what is the state of Linux as your primary OS for home PC\laptop in 2023....
My work laptop was forced to Winows 11 today, and as much as I dislike using windows, I do like the relaxing notification sounds. Much more than the default sound alerts I have with Linux Mint on my desktop. Does anyone have any recommendations for similar alerts and where I can download them. I’ve done a basic search and...

It takes my PC (which should be fast enough; Ryzen 9, NVME) running OpenSUSE TW 42 seconds to boot, more than 30 seconds longer than before. Does anyone know what could cause the 38-second discrepancy between network.target and systemd-user-sessions.service? Is there a way to gather more information about what steps happen in...
Just ran dnf upgrade (Fedora) and it upgraded some packages and then the alphabet died....
I have an old laptop which didn’t exactly have top of the line specs when I bought it back in 2016. It does, however, run Ubuntu pretty competently (yes I know there are better distros, no I am not going to use them). It was cheap. As in it came with a Celeron in 2016 cheap, so it isn’t the speediest little guy....
when i got home from i fired up Vivaldi and it won’t work. I don’t mean it won’t load the screen ia all scrambled....
I know not everyone likes using vim but I thought those who do could share a good reason to get into it. For me its the repetition of the last change with the push of the dot key. Replace the current word with another and move the cursor to the next word you wish to replace. It makes the editor so versatile and feels very...

Hi all!...
I currently have a personal nas running ubuntu server, but I’m considering moving it to opensuse leap. I’ve dabbled a bit with leap inside of virtual machines, but maybe someone more experienced with it can give me a more complete opinion. Also, is btrfs worth getting into, or can I just use ext4 and loose out on nothing...
Is there a Linux command to monitor read and writes over a period of time? with what files were accessed and how much data was written.
