Why is there a lack of gifs/videos on Lemmy?

Video is simply the most superior type of media there is

I really don’t get this. There’s totally some cool stuff on youtube, but I really dislike when someone points me to a video for more information on a topic. Especially if the presenter has “content creator” affectation.

Scanning text is easier and faster.

100% with you there. Video is the absolute last place I look for real information.

My main exceptions here are:

• game reviews - seeing screenshots and gameplay footage is really valuable
• police interactions - I want to see the body cam footage before forming an opinion
• DIY instructions - it’s way easier to follow it I see it first hand

But for pretty much everything else, text is superior.

Comments on YouTube suck, comments on lemmy are the whole reason I use it. So yeah, screw video, I’m much more likely to read an article than watch a video before jumping to the comments.
