A 16th century Japanese medical text explains how diseases were caused by tiny bugs that entered the body and were known as creepy germs or mushi. @curiousordinary@folklore@skye The Japanese manga "Mushishi" tells the story of a "mushi doctor" who goes around and helps people co-exist with the various mushi. It was also turned into an anime, which I highly recommend.
