Do I happen to have any folks knowledgeable about polio in my network? More specifically, looking for pre-19th century treatments (however useless) and names for the disease, as well as beliefs regarding origin and causes (before it was discovered to be a virus).

Links and book recs welcome!

[ apology if obvious ]

I would guess that many such articles are in non English sources

a search of pubmed:

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=treatment+for+polio&filter=years.1892-1952

leads to articles such as these, that might have references to the older literature:

@lbheuschkel @folklore I would recommend Polio The Odyssey of Eradication by Thomas Abraham
