Some people have the strange ability to see invisible spirits.

This is not always a blessing.

@juergen_hubert @germany @folklore She was his prompt to see the larger world. That said, it's a common local belief in Malaysia across various ethnicities that there are special individuals who can see the unseen. For them (and us), extra care must be taken to observe certain taboos during Hungry Ghost Month. https://www.timeout.com/hong-kong/things-to-do/8-things-you-should-never-do-during-hungry-ghost-festival

@Ellirahim @germany @folklore In German folklore, those "special individuals" are usually "Sunday Children", although it was not always sufficient to be merely born on a Sunday. Instead, they might need to have been born at midnight on a Sunday, or on specific Sundays such as Palm Sunday.

@juergen_hubert @germany @folklore This interesting criteria to fulfil. In Southeast Asia, it's not just Sundays.Even with the different ethnic backgrounds here, the time and date of one's birth, being the eldest or youngest could mean you'll be blessed (or cursed, depending on your POV) with the ability to see the unseen. You can even train for it.
