Bceez, in Enhancer for YouTube is gone

The extension will eventually come back:

Apollo2323, in Open extensions on Firefox for Android debut December 14 (but you can get a sneak peek today)

Thank you to the Firefox Team for doing this! This will be huge.

Deebster, in Firefox 120: Searching Tabs in the Address Bar Will Work Across Containers

Ah, I missed the bit about it being v120. I hope it shows the tabs from the same container first! I frequently have the same page open in multiple containers for testing.

I would quite like the option to have suggestions at the bottom rather them at the top, I almost always visit sites I’ve already visited.

Is this what you're after?

Settings -> Search -> Search Suggestions -> Untick "Show search suggestions ahead of browsing history in address bar results"

I guess you could also disable those suggestions entirely if you prefer.

waterfox 6.0 is already shipping with oblivious http.

Zagrebian, in How do I remove the (…) buttons on the right side of suggestions in the URL field drop-down?

The solution is to set browser.urlbar.resultMenu.keyboardAccessible to false on the about:config page.

Use the arrow keys?

Zagrebian,

When a user comments that keyboard use in Firefox is not as efficient as they’d like in terms of the number of key presses, it’s not a good idea to suggest something that is even less efficient because it requires moving a hand.

Firefox translations are local and open source.

https://searchfox.org/mozilla-central/source/toolkit/components/translations may be a good place to start to learn. https://firefox-source-docs.mozilla.org/toolkit/components/translations/index.html may also be helpful.

NickLorraine, in Did I screw up something with Firefox's Autocorrect Dictionary?

I've been having this issue for a while now, across multiple computers, where Firefox flags random words as incorrect. I usually notice it happen when it's a newer word, like Scalability for example, but I brush it off since it's not too common. I've been increasingly noticing that it happens to words that are variants of the root word, and I just saw it happen again with Amongst

I know it's set to the correct dictionary of Canadian English, since colour isn't underlined but color is, yet I'm at a loss trying to figure out what sort of Canadian English dictionary could possibly not include words like amongst.

I'm sure there's a ton more than I see these days too, since I've been clicking "Add to Dictionary" for years now after Googling to confirm I'm being gaslit by autocorrect. Who knows how many words are self-additions and not natively recognized (and would you look at that, "natively" is not a word either apparently!)

It's some setting I must have screwed with that's causing it, right? How do I fix this?

PeachMan,
@PeachMan@lemmy.one avatar

It looks like Mozilla doesn’t maintain an official Canadian dictionary, they just rely on this add-on created by a single guy: …mozilla.org/…/canadian-english-dictionary/

I’d suggest turning that dictionary off and relying on a third-party spelling/grammar app with better Canadian language support. I don’t know if they have a Canada-specific option, but I like LanguageTool: addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/…/languagetool/

There are a lot of options out there, be careful about which ones have a decent privacy policy. Keep in mind, they could easily record anything you type, on any website.

Boterham, in Access location notification for every Google Search

Normally Firefox itself should ask first if google is allowed to access your location. Maybe try find that setting in firefox and disable it. I would imagine if firefox itself blocks the request already, it isn’t even handed over to gnome. But that’s pure speculation.

lukigno95,

for me it would okay that google asks my location, it looks like that for some reason(gnome or firefox) doesn't save my preference 🤷🏻

I actually run Firefox for all my normal stuff and have a copy of Firefox Developer Edition I use for streaming music and videos so I can keep my "work" and "media" totally separate.

@yoasif@fedia.io avatar

So... report bugs?

Paradice,

Sure, I have reported many issues in the past, I just like to discuss it first in case it is already known or there is another fix (remember the http3 bug). There used to be a sticky post at the firefox subreddit for nightly discussion, but I didn't find one here.

yoasif,
@yoasif@fedia.io avatar

Yeah, there is no automoderator here, so things are going to be a little cumbersome to start.

caron, in Firefox nightly feels slow and buggy

My Nightly is working amazingly. Consistently scoring over Chromium browsers in Speedometer 2

Paradice,

Mine is working fine too now, this is strange. Like something was wrong for like 40-50 mins after installing it both on my PC and Laptop. I tried disabling my only extension too but it still had issues. Seems everything is good now.

Yeah search for “firefox profiles”, setting everything up how you described it varies depending on your system but it’s definitely possible
