What’s a book you’d like to read next year, either a newly published book in 2024 or a book that you didn’t get to this year?

I’ll start:

The Year of the Locust by Terry Hayes (2024 pub. date) & A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens (not new 😉).

@Likewise @bookstodon Just continuing my read through of what I call my, 'often quoted, never read', reading list. Finishing up Josephus now, probably going to move on to Xenophon next.

@Likewise @bookstodon Of course, I'm looking forward to all the NetGalley reads. Beyond those, in 2024, I am planning to read some of the books I actually own. Crazy, right? Top selections include [walks over to bookcase]:

OTHER MINDS AND OTHER STORIES: Bennett Sims

IN THE LAND OF ARMADILLOS, Helen Maryles Shankman

HURRICANE SEASON, Fernanda Melchor

THE PLUM TREE, Ellen Marie Wiseman

FIFTH LIFE OF THE CATWOMAN, Kathleen Dexter

THE VISITING PRIVILEGE, Joy Williams

@Likewise @bookstodon Fun question! It would have to be one of the books in my pile of haven’t gotten to them yet. The Books of Jacob by Olga Torarczuk and Black Leopard Red Wolf by Marlon James. I may add The Trees to my list as well!

@Likewise @bookstodon I really want (hope) to dive into the "The Book of the New Sun" series by Gene Wolfe. I read the first book a while ago but want to start it over now that I have all the books.

Just one book from my TBR pile? What kind of madness is this?

Timefulness: How Thinking Like a
Geologist Can Help Save the
World by Marcia Bjornerud.

Her writing is exquisite and the subject matter is fascinating to me. But I have commitment issues lately. Soon, though.

I bought John Shirley’s “Really, Really, Really, Really Weird Stories” but forgot to read it, so I’ll get right to that. 😂

And I pre-ordered Brian Klaas’ “Fluke: Chance, Chaos, And Why Everything We Do Matters,” which will be released Jan 23, 2024 - looking forward to that very much!

Thanks for the reminder! 🥳

@Likewise @bookstodon I am anxious to get to The First Bright Thing by JR Dawson. I want to savor it with a weekend focus, but everything’s been too much!
