I recommend purchasing used books from the library, especially if they sell donated books, and not just library discards. I picked up all of these for a cool five bucks. @bookstodon
@cpm@kimlockhartga@bookstodon I also run my little free community library in front of my home. I put new books donated & gently used books I'm finished reading in there. I also put in CDs & DVDs in it. Lots of ppl visit it & take/donate books/multimedia.
I'm starting a arts/crafts/non-perishable food free community sharing box too. I have to repaint an old donated newspaper box for that one 😊
@kimlockhartga@cpm@bookstodon Thanks! Kids/adults who visit love it & also like that I planted several foods in front gardens that I encourage visitors to pick & take home to eat.
I am adding some more decorations to my LFL this Fall & some seasonal stuff near Halloween & at Winter Solstice time.
Agreed. That was the first story I ever remember reading with an older-women was the protagonist. I loved that she didn't take shit off of anybody when they tried to bully her.
@kimlockhartga@bookstodon My local train station has rasied thousands of pounds for charotyover the years from its book stalls. I;ve pickedup some gems from there (a terrific Olivia Laing only the other day). It's funny sometimes when I see a good book, and have to stop myself from buying it because it was me who donated it in the first place.

I used to run the Saturday book sale at our local library. What a joy! I met some great folks there, and got first dibs on the donated books.
@snooze_cat@bookstodon that must have been amazing! I have to comb through the daily donations carefully to find the treasures. It's also satisfying to see my own donations sold.
