@lowrah@AimeeMaroux It's a protective charm! In many places, but especially ancient Greece and Rome, the erect phallus was considered apotropaic- a sign that wards off evil. They had boundary markers whose primary characteristic was a bright red erection! The Roman ones (Priapii) are the origin of lawn gnomes with red hats :)
