Do my comrades find that they sleep better when avoiding triggers in the last few hours before bed?

@theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic My only experiences in being able to "avoid triggers" usually involve me sleeping away from my wife. In that case, yes. Other than those few times I have no idea how one goes about "avoiding triggers".

@theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic I recently realized that I sleep much better wearing a sleeping mask.

Yes and no.
Without triggers, I can fall asleep ok. With triggers, and meltdowns, I pass out crying. It's more of a terrible wake up feeling rather than a terrible sleeping...

But then, I never schedule my sleeping, so I tend to have better luck when I do fall asleep, for I sleep when I am sleepy, and not according to another's schedule.

@theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic If only I'd learn. I should really make it a priority to put away my phone a few hours before so my head isn't fixated on something as I go to bed.

Why is it so haaard...

@theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic The word trigger makes it seem mainly negative things, but would it include positive things that makes your head go vrrrr too? A stimulating conversation can stick around for a few hours for me and makes it hard to go to sleep.

@neversosimple @actuallyautistic absolutely - positive things can dysregulate us too

I've been triggered by positives as well, and I can have a meltdown from being very very happy, very rare, but I do have some exacerbated fight/flights. Hard to sleep when I have heart palps and/or excitement. I may need to 'wind down' before I'm ready to fall asleep.

@theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic oh, for sure!

It doesn’t prevent me from exposing myself to triggers due to bad habits though. The ADHD part of my personality is notorious for that.
