These flying marine creatures work on the Wailord principle: If you scale the creature up to colossal size, but don't increase the weight proportionally, you end up with a blimp that weighs less than the air it displaces. It would begin to swim around in the air like it was made to do that, and no doubt it'd be fun to watch.
