The unfortunate timing of him writing an entire book-length hagiography that went to print just as his subject was being exposed as a fraud meant he either had to admit having been completely fooled or double down. Alas, he has chosen, and not wisely.
There was a poll that stated—Rowling’s opening line in the HP series is one of best in the world. Someone posted about how there are a bunch of other opening statements that are better.
Here’s one of my personal favorites, from Gabriel Garcia Marquez (English translated):
“It is inevitable. The scent of bitter almonds always reminded him of the fate of unrequited love.”
"When your mama was the geek, my dreamlets," Papa would say, "she made the nipping off of noggins such a crystal mystery that the hens themselves yearned toward her, waltzing around her, hypnotized with longing."
Being an admin of a large-ish instance has been quite an eye opening experience into how awful some people are towards trans people. I really don’t understand the energy they put into hating people.
