Read Harder 2023 Task #1: Read a novel about a trans character written by a trans author.
I've read Nevada by Imogen Binnie https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/58837536-nevada
"One of the most beloved cult novels of our time and a landmark of trans literature"
I liked the content, I learned a lot, but got a bit tired with the style, lots of monologue going on. 🎲4

Read Harder 2023 Task #2. Read one of your favorite author’s favorite books.

I've read Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16131077-the-shining-girls
Stephen King recommended it and it was on my TBR list.
It's about a time-travelling serial killer. and the victim that got away. I didn't like the beginning, but kept at it,and got carried away. 🎲5

Intriguing cover,I just had to pick this. And that was a crazy read, one I enjoyed a lot! CW graphic violence. 🎲5

Read Harder 2023 Task 4: Read a book that’s been challenged recently in your school district/library OR read one of the most-challenged/banned books of the year by a queer and/or BIPOC author

It's a long time since any books have been banned in Norway, so I went with one from USA: The Hate U Give, Angie Thomas https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/32075671-the-hate-u-give

I loved this book, even though it was heartbreaking, because it was so real and important.

Read harder 2023 Task 13: Read an author local to you

I read the Norwegian crime/thriller Armageddon-algoritmen by Petter Fergestad. It's the author's debut novel,he was 78 at the time! The setting is Drammen, where both the author and I live.

Climate crisis, religious fanaticism, mental illness and corruption - this should make a good book. But I was a bit disappointed, thought it was somewhat predictable and I didn't connect with the characters

Read Harder 2023 Task 8: Read a graphic novel/comic/manga if you haven’t before; or read one that is a different genre than you normally read.

I haven't read any manga before, so I chose My Brother's Husband by Gengoroh Tagame https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/32337897-my-brother-s-husband-volume-1

This was just beautiful! 🎲6 "an unprecedented and heartbreaking look at the state of a largely still-closeted Japanese gay culture"

Read Harder 2023 Task 22: Read any book from the Ignyte awards shortlist/longlist/winner list.

Black Sun, Rebecca Roanhorse won the Best Adult Novel in 2021. "An epic adventure inspired by the civilizations of the Pre-Columbian Americas and woven into a tale of celestial prophecies, political intrigue and forbidden magic."

Fascinating worldbuilding, I really loved it! I read the next book right away.

Read Harder Challenge Task 8: Read an independently published book by a BIPOC author.
I read 'Her Body and Other Parties: Stories' by Carmen Maria Machado.

[She]..blithely demolishes the arbitrary borders between psychological realism and science fiction, comedy and horror, fantasy and fabulism.

A collection of short stories, I found it
weird, provocative and interesting!
