mee, to selfhosted in Seeking advice about BTRFS RAID

I would continue to say don’t use RAID56. You can use RAID1, which will give you the sum of all your drives divided by 2 in usable space. As long you’re not matching say a 4TB and 2x1TB. It’s called RAID1, but really it writes all data to 2 separate drives, that’s why the 4TB and 2x1TB example you don’t have enough to write more than 2TB on separate drives. www.carfax.org.uk/btrfs-usage/ is a calculator you can play with

btrfs.readthedocs.io/en/latest/Status.html#block-… They still list RAID56 as unstable on the docs.

mee, to 3dprinting in Youtube bans 3D print channel after manually reviewing its videos as suitable for monetization [Louis Rossmann explains the censorship]

Why have none of these big creators banded to put their weight behind one of the fediverse alternatives?

Because they can’t make money from them. Are the fediverse alternatives going to have ads? Require a subscription plan? If their income will only come from in-video sponsors, then it doesn’t matter if they don’t have monetization on YouTube.

mee, to games in Creators of Slay the Spire will migrate their next game to a new engine if Unity doesn't completely revert their changes

It really depends on how modular their codebase is. The Doom 1/2 modern ports they did in 2019 use Unity. But it’s actually still the original Doom underneath and just using Unity for input and output to make porting easier

mee, to 3dprinting in Got klipper up and running on the new Ender-3 V3 se

Klipper isn’t a web interface. Octoprint works with Klipper as a web interface. They’re different software for different things.

mee, to android in PlayStation Portal: Hands On With Sony's New Remote Play Handheld

Bigger screen than a regular android phone. Especially because your 6" 21:9 phone means a 16:9 picture on it will only take up ~5".

Also better controller. Those mounts for a phone on a regular Xbox/Playstation controller always make it too top-heavy since your phone has to be on top of the controller. And I love the idea of a full-sized controller over a Switch or even Steam Deck’s tiny buttons that just aren’t comfortable.

I’d probably only be interested if it lets you run actual Android stuff though. Have you seen the Logitech G Cloud gaming handheld? That one’s even more expensive, but it does run local games too.

why anyone would prefer that over simply using a regular Android phone with a good controller

I always think this is funny because that sums up /r/sbcgaming

mee, (edited ) to linux_gaming in online anti cheats are the worst thing

I don’t like it because that’s the kind of elitist attitude that turns away new people from checking out Linux gaming. Imagine that as a response to “Hey I play these games and am interested in Linux”. You’re going to tell them: “switch to Linux and give up those games and if you don’t you’re not committed enough”?

It’s gatekeeping “console-wars” fanboy mentality. Like a Linux Playstation fan attacking someone for playing an Windows Xbox Exclusive. As if that’s supposed to be their whole identity, and not just a way to play video games.

There’s nothing wrong with having multiple consoles; there’s nothing wrong with dual-booting.

mee, to games in Sony's Remote Play handheld Project Q has been renamed PlayStation Portal and will be available for $199

I think the issue is always going to be games. Who wants to make games targeting such a small userbase? Half of the Android games don’t even have good controller support (looking at you Genshin/Honkai)
