What motivates research fraud?

"There is pressure to publish as scientists [...] There are labs that are run by big egos who might say to a young researcher, “Why did your experiment fail? I will hire someone else who will make it work [...] The graduate students and the postdocs might be the ones photoshopping, but who is responsible for the atmosphere and the integrity of the lab? That’s the professor" - @ElisabethBik

I have worked in science for about 45 years and in a research environment for 37 years.

I don't recognise any of those scenarios. Have worked with a few massive egos, however they would never have faked anything and never have pressured anyone else to. This was in Forensic Science and a University.

Am aware of pressure in some medical science environments to get publications out and am aware that there has been some fraudulent publication there.

So I am a bit confused over this ability to search. While the search function in has been very limited I have just repeated the same search on and and got lots of results compared to the same search on Mastodon.

These results have not been from posts that I have liked, boosted or commented on.

Have Friendica and Firefish always had a better search functionality than Mastodon?

Do they respect the option to not be included in searches?

BTW, have you discovered Bookwyrm?

It is another Fediverse system dedicated to book lovers. A bit like Goodreads. You can view and leave reviews and track your reading. Scan ISBN numbers and see what others have said.

Being part of the Fediverse it is possible to send/receive messages with people on there, although the message system on bookwyrm is basic.

I'm @LeighMS on there
