@SmudgeTheInsultCat nothing under a thousand years? Does the last millennium have nothing to show in terms of crackpot jibberings?

Physics has been waiting for quantum gravity for, oh 90 ish years?

I should clearly not be left alone with just my thoughts.

@jerry I thought you were to remain at least 200m from your thoughts, by court order.

@jerry the Pint Officer is going to send you back to the bar until your thoughts are safely far far away.

Interesting, a high-interaction post I made yesterday has been already indexed by Google and produced a Google Alert notification within 6 hours.

Google has long been present on some instances with it's usual web crawling. I'm uncertain of the latest developments, but I think that mastodon.social both allows the crawlers, and might be selling a privileged view of instance data to Google or data brokers.

I'm fine with crawling and indexing, but the sale of privileged data that helps the ad-hawkers will cause me to leave this instance eventually.

@YurkshireLad @Gargron there was some grumbling months ago.

Still, people's labour costs money, I'm happy to be listed as a sponsor, for now.

But I don't want data to be sold into the advertising and marketing industry, even if it manages to be anonymized and GDPR-legal.

@Gargron @YurkshireLad thanks for clarifying.

Are there separate settings to opt out of commercial search engine indexing via web crawling, but opt-in to Mastodon's search indexing? I want the good people of Mastodon/Fediverse to find my content, but would rather not give it to Google etc.

Telling AI model to “take a deep breath” causes math scores to soar in study

DeepMind used AI models to optimize their own prompts, with surprising results.

Deets are slim but so far it sounds like the hate protest is a flop and the demonstration is eclipsing it.

Good.

This won't be decisive. As long as the govt allows money to flow to hate groups from foreign groups, and from tax-exempt religious organizations, then we'll continue to see elevated levels of hate activity.

The amount of time I spend laying on a heating pad seems directly proportional to my age. Will need a full body heating pad soon.

johnefrancis,
@johnefrancis@mastodon.social avatar

@jerry are both the size and time proportional? You could end up needing to lie on a black hole.
