It seems like Mastodon is losing its mindshare to #Bluesky among many academics.

I can't help but think this has to do with the self-imposed limitations of Mastdon — lack of quotes, ordered timeline, etc. Makes it less interesting to use, for no real advantage.

Sad, because the underlying decentralization is much more robust.

@tiago @crecente @SamCrawley @TEG @academicchatter I just skimmed the blog post itself, which in summarizing the articles seems to suggest there is limited, if any evidence that QTs cause harm.

@ninokadic @failedLyndonLaRouchite @academicchatter @philosophy I think you may have missed the point of that comment.

@ninokadic @failedLyndonLaRouchite @academicchatter @philosophy well you have certainly clarified your ethical stance.

What I really need is an webinar. A short course on turning down opportunities. A retreat on drafting a 5 year plan to stay the course. A print out worksheet on just enjoying your life after . @academicsunite @academicchatter @academia_carnet

@girls_can @academicsunite @academicchatter @academia_carnet The problem is that everyone qualified to teach this knows to turn down the offer to do so 😂

I'm submitting the tenure dossier soon and I see that, after all, I have more articles admitted for publication than necessary. I am thinking of putting them aside in a folder for the next promotion, if it will come, as they have not been published yet. Is it a common practice or is it just me wanting to get my social life back a bit? @academicchatter #Tenure

jjsylvia,
@jjsylvia@mastodon.social avatar

@gonzalo @academicchatter this probably comes down to local institutional rules, but it seems like if they haven’t yet been published, you could feasibly save them to count toward promotion.

@gonzalo @academicchatter I fully support!

I think I’m getting old. We’ve upgraded to 4 and instead of being excited about new features, I’m annoyed that I’m having to reconfigure all of my course information because it used a layout that is now deprecated and what was elegant and minimalist last year now looks like a hot mess! @academicchatter

jjsylvia,
@jjsylvia@mastodon.social avatar

@mattbarnardsays @academicchatter not sure that’s age-related. I just glanced at the new features listed for 4, and there doesn’t really even seem to be much to get excited about to offset the labor of redoing classes because of a poorly designed upgrade that doesn’t maintain previous course setup labor.

Ok, @academicchatter I've really gone down a licensing rabbit hole while adapting a work. Ready to go down it with me? I'm adapting one chapter from this book: https://2012books.lardbucket.org/books/a-primer-on-communication-studies/s01-introduction-to-communication-.html
