In this week's column I call for a streamlined process for low income households to obtain energy tax credits. TLDR: Don't require them to install solar on their roof or build a solar farm in their community, let them invest in community projects that are situated where they'll generate the most electricity.

Ultimately, engage with the communities you seek to aid and ask them what they need and how to facilitate it.

@dbc3 @andrew @law Agreed on the ineffectiveness of tax credits for low income households. The standard deductions for individuals and joint filers the 2023 tax year are $13,850 & $27,700, respectively. The odds of low income households receiving any benefit from itemizing, short of catastrophic illness, are minute to begin with, and even smaller when it requires them to spend money on things that aren't necessities.

The odds of low income households receiving any benefit from itemizing, short of catastrophic illness, are already minute, and will be bordering on non-existent if it requires them to spend money on things that aren't necessities.
