Un "s" à la fin d'un nom comme "friend" peut être dû à 3 choses :

  • Un pluriel
    My friends are...
  • Une élision
    My friend's sick.
  • Un génitif
    My friend's bike is...
    Si on veut distinguer de façon cohérente ces 3 cas à l'écrit et qu'on utilise l'ajout simple pour marquer le pluriel et l'apostrophe pour marquer l'élision, ça prendrait un autre signe, différent de l'apostrophe, pour marquer le génitif.
