Sitting down with a 1,200-word proofread when my last editing task was an 80,000-word line edit and I'm having to steer my brain pretty hard over here 😂 @edibuddies#AmEditing
Romance writers (& editors), are you interested in gender as a craft tool & inclusion issue? I've just reposted my article ✨ Doing Gender on Purpose: Diversity, Depth, and Character in Romance✨ so that it's freely available. I hope you'll check it out, share it, give it a think :) https://www.eliotwesteditorial.com/gender-on-purpose.html
Folks who work on very long docs in Word using Comments: Is there anything I need to look out for? I’m about to start the longest project I’ve ever done in Word specifically and am slightly concerned I’ll get partway through & somehow explode the document. Wisdom? @edibuddies#edibuddies@editors#AmEditing

How long is the doc? Are you using tracked changes or just comments? If just comments, my only advice is to back up early and often - it shouldn't make even the longest documents unweildy. If you're also using tracked changes, though, turn on the simplified markup. Otherwise that could really hang up loading.
I'd begin by saving a backup of the document before you start editing, delete comments as you go if you find them easily resolvable, and change viewing to simplified, which should speed up loading times. Keep 2 versions of the file, the one you are editing and the document before the edits started. It might also help to have MS Word save the document automatically every 1 minute in this case @eliotedits@edibuddies@editors

Knitter friends: I have a 5-mini-skein set of Wonderland's fingering weight yarn that belonged to my best friend when she died (her mom sent it to me to use). I want to make something special for myself to wear, probably a cowl or similar--but I get frustrated easily working with fingering weight and am still kind of wonky with grief. Do you have soothing-to-knit patterns that might work here? (It's 594 yards / 5 oz altogether.) @knitting#knitting@fiberarts
@eliotedits@knitting@fiberarts I'm so sorry for your loss. It's ok to set it aside, or to take your time finding your way to the right pattern. What a beautiful sentiment, to create something in memoriam. ❤️🙏
Trying to plan out my conference agenda for #ACESVCON23 next week! And where my children and dogs will be during my presentation :) @edibuddies hope to see some of you there
