Ok. You've just discovered a magical camcorder that can travel through space and time. It can record high quality sound and video for one hour. You can only use it three times.

Where do you send your magical camcorder.

@aliceenamour @histodons I had been thinking about human history, but this is excellent! Would we be able to see or hear anything at the singularity? That would be mind-blowing.

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@agt @histodons It would be so powerful and humbling to see ancestors. I wonder if we would even be able to understand things 100 years from now.

It's already bad and it's going to get worse.

It's the here at Erotic Mythology! 🍇

"Let us be merry and drink wine and sing of Bakkhos [], the inventor of the choral dance, the lover of all songs, leading the same life as the Erotes, the darling of Kythere []."
The Anacreontea, Fragment 38

@orionkidder @AimeeMaroux @antiquidons @histodons @mythology I'm always confused that there is this illusion that folks in past generations were all prudes. It's not that there weren't prudes back in the day, it's what you're saying. Horny is universal. The main difference is the accessibility of online porn.

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@orionkidder @AimeeMaroux @antiquidons @histodons @mythology Thinking more about this, I might do a newsletter post on this. I'm super interested in this idea of imaginary prudishness. And I think some older folks support it. They don't want people of their kids generation to know what freaks they were when they were young. Wouldn't it be better for young folks to understand the hormones rushing through them are normal?

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@orionkidder @AimeeMaroux @antiquidons @histodons @mythology That's absolutely true - the social side of things is important. I don't remember where I read it, but there are supposed to be statistics about young folks today not having as much in-person sex - I'm sure that's not due to a lack of horniness.

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@AimeeMaroux @orionkidder @antiquidons @histodons @mythology Oh, I love that! ain't nothing new under the sun. I had heard about nearly-transparent dresses and some dresses that basically revealed the nipples, but I hadn't heard about piercings.

My first offering: The Great Gatsby.

The eyes from the billboard turned mournful, an empty expanse of blue. The lights of the city, blurred hazy and reflected. and at the very bottom, the road that runs through everything.

@dbsalk @bookstodon I love it when a publisher goes back and reimagines things. I love the classics, too, but new takes can be really brilliant.

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@dbsalk @bookstodon For the classics, I was just looking at the Penguin classic covers and there's a lot to like in there.

I hadn't seen this cover for the Handmaid's Tale, which is really great.

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@ianrogers @bookstodon Oh, that's a perfect classic. The colors are so jarring, and that gear eye is inhuman and unsettling!

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@BackFromTheDud @ianrogers @bookstodon Haha! Your teachers had it in for you! (in the best possible way :blobcatdevil: )

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@bookstodon Because I've been rereading these, I checked out the new covers for Raymond Chandler, and I do like the style.

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@lunalein @bookstodon That's good. It's amazing how unsettling and uncanny a distorted face can look.

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@lunalein @bookstodon That list is wonderful! I love the whole pulp aesthetic - and your monster's outfit is great!

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@lunalein @bookstodon "What have I become? I used to terrorize villages, and now? Now I'm just... Yes. Yes, Mike, I know your wife likes her burger well done. I'll take care of it."

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@PeteLittle1970 @bookstodon Oh, 100% yes! I love the old painted style. And the old scifi look is just classic. The one that comes to mind for me is this one. And I'll be honest, I don't remember the story at all, but that cover! :blobcat_flop_woozy:

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@PeteLittle1970 @bookstodon Although, looking at it now, that might be a newer cover than I had. Ah, my memory is awful!

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@PeteLittle1970 @bookstodon I like that web motif. I read the wikipedia synopsis, and you are pretty dead on with the story - great memory!

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@PeteLittle1970 @bookstodon Oh, yeah, album covers would be another great thing to explore!

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@paulcowdell @PeteLittle1970 @bookstodon @pulplibrarian I love Pulp Librarian! I can't find them or their mirror bot here though. They are one of the reasons I still lurk on Twitter :blabcatpeek:

@pulplibrarian doesn't show up for me :( Does that mean my federation has him blocked?

@shoesforall @bookstodon @lunalein Oh, this is stunning! I love it!

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@mabbymabmab @bookstodon It's so iconic, right?

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@mabbymabmab @bookstodon I don't know this one, but the angle and shading on the statue is really nice

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@mabbymabmab @bookstodon Absolutely - just unhinged and brilliant!

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@dbsalk @lunalein @bookstodon Oh no! Thank you for this link, but you might have made me lose the rest of the day looking through these! :)

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@deirdresm @bookstodon Oh this is so good. I had no idea that the code was for a Barbie. That's brilliantly subtle and dark.

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@Twoclownseating @bookstodon I'm going to believe that's on purpose, too. This is wonderful - I especially love that most of the design is corporate branding. Wonderfully subversive.

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@paulcowdell @PeteLittle1970 @RubyJones @bookstodon @pulplibrarian Perhaps. It's a pity, but I do understand the reluctance to accept bots.

SDZ,
@SDZ@mstdn.social avatar

@mabbymabmab @bookstodon I'll put it on the list! Thanks!
