Kraiden, to technology in Why you might not want to use whatsapp anymore

Embrace the void

Kidding. I hear you. I don't have facebook/insta/WhatsApp but my partner does, and it's painfully obvious how much we'd miss out on if she didn't

Kraiden, to memes in Be wary my friends, for we are on the path to glory

Easy. Ban Defederate every company.

FTFY. It's FOSS. We can't stop them from spinning up their own instances (See: Threads) but that doesn't mean we have to play nicely with them.

Edit: Fuck it, I can't get the strikethrough to work.

Kraiden, to youshouldknow in YSK: Keeping your accounts/online identity safe in the age of the fediverse/federated networks

Good advice for outside the fediverse too

Kraiden, to kbinMeta in I haven't seen anyone mention the kbin native(?) app!? I tried it and it seems perfect and amazing?

It's better than nothing, but it's missing quite a bit. I'm actually finding it to be quite janky.

Things like every time I go back from reading a thread or something, all the filters get reset. Opening a link to a post is inconsistent, and won't always scroll to the exact post. Tapping on a title doesn't always open the thread, I have to tap 3 times to open a link, no notifications etc etc.

To be clear, I'm not complaining. Kbin is still quite early in it's life and until recently was only being built by one person. This is all to be expected, and I'm sure it'll get smoothed out in time.

Buuuuuuuuut a nice smooth native app experience would be lovely, ngl

Kraiden, to RedditMigration in 3rd party app for Reddit, Boost, is still functioning well after July 1st

Uh... Addendum... Why TF is RIF suddenly working again?

I can't log in, but I can see unauthed content

Kraiden, to kbinMeta in Pt.2 of the Kbird mascot. Thoughts on these two designs?

Throwing my vote to righty as well.

The left loses a little too much detail at smaller scale.

The little expression marks on righty need to go for the same reason imo.

All in all though, I like it!

fyi you can do strike through like ~~this~~
example

Kraiden, to tech in Twitter's latest user-unfriendly move requires an account just to read

I mean they have to protect all that content that they've been given for free, right?

  • spez probably
Kraiden, to RedditMigration in Ordinary redditors are feeling the pain as well.

Wow so they've prioritised the casual users over the power users... You know, the ones who actually post the content... This should go well /s

Anecdotal, but I've been talking about this whole thing to my partner. She doesn't really care though because, in her own words: "I tried to use Reddit a little while ago, but I didn't like the app"

Had a good chuckle to myself over that

Kraiden, to RedditMigration in Unlike previous attempts at trying reddit alternatives (like Voat), kbin and much of the lemmyverse doesn’t seem to be plagued with extreme far right buffoonery.

You're implying that the left and right suppress each other equally, but frankly it's only the right trying to fuck over their fellow man for profit and power. Got nothing to do with being more enlightened or smarter. Compassion though... Ye, the left are more compassionate.

Of course feel free to prove me wrong...

Kraiden, to youshouldknow in YSK: In addition to Reddit, StackOverflow is on Strike

Fuuuuuuuuuuck. Welp. That's it. The internet is closed for business. Thanks for stopping by

Kraiden, to RedditMigration in Call to action - renewed protests starting on July 1st

I'm here now for sure...

...but deep down I really do hope that Reddit sorts it's shit. I had a really nicely callibrated frontpage that's going to take a long time to build back up here, and will never be the same.

There were some really niche subreddits on there that I just don't know will ever make the jump (no, I'm not going to start alternatives, thank you, but I have a day job)

Stuff like /r/happycowgifs or /r/nerdcubed

Kraiden, to RedditMigration in Call to action - renewed protests starting on July 1st

start establishing backups so they don't exist solely at the whim of reddit.

This is the really essential point that I think bares repeating. Yes, these communities fill important roles, but that is EXACTLY why we should be pushing them on to other platforms.

They don't need to move entirely, but they should be trying to mirror themselves somewhere else.

Spez may not being going as power mad as Elon yet, but he's definitely looking over there, distracted boyfriend style.
