I find it very rude that an author would write something in their story that makes me cry while I'm trying to proofread their novel. It's hard enough to check for typos, bad breaks, layout issues, and the like when it's not through tear-filled eyes.

Once you realized you were autistic, did you encounter overwhelming and overloading situations that you remembered "dealing" with much better before you learned you were autistic? Like learning you were autistic somehow changed how you processed these kinds of situations?

Yes, I do have the sense that I dealt "better" with overwhelming situations before I found out that I am autistic.

But the truth is that even decades ago, I refused to do more than one social event per weekend. I always needed alone-time. I always curled up with books.

So I believe I'm more aware of overwhelm now. And that gives me the chance to withdraw earlier.

Of course, menopause might also have an effect - making me more thin-skinned.

Who knows...

I feel like I'm "acting" and feeling more autistic since I discovered myself to be autistic, and it's doing wonders for my imposter syndrome. (sarcasm)

As an example: I've felt more acute episodes of sensory overload in the last couple of weeks than I can remember having in... ever. And my life hasn't been exceptionally or abnormally busy.

Is it because I'm more aware of it now? Is it because I started ADHD meds and that has made my autistic traits more visible and obvious? Is it just the meds in general?

Is it just me feeling like this?

I feel similar - as if the symptoms are getting worse.

However, I'm quite sure that this is really just being more aware of it all.

I mean, I am more aware of how unpleasant the tags in t-shirts are (and cut them off), but then I remember that as I child, the worst thing was being forced to wear woolen hose. That was pure torture (mom couldn't even understand why it was a problem). I've never been able to wear wool happily.

Yeah. Awareness.
