TIL there were guide dogs in medieval Europe!

This image from a 13th century French manuscript in the British Library shows a blind man being lead by a dog.

Hooray for Dr Krista Milna, who researches this topic and has just been awarded a grant to do more!

The medieval seal, with numbered key to the iconography. For the text to match the numbers, please look up the website. Can you see 14 people, 5 lions, 2 castles, an eagle and a lamb? The original silver masterpiece is 6cm high.

The skill of the medieval silversmith & the modern stonecarvers was celebrated in a third medium with our project mementos! These were made by Cameron Newham FSA, using photogrammetry, 3D-printing, & handpainting. Tiny medieval treasures & large stone sculptures are both hard to move: these small replicas are a delight!

Close up of the resin memento. It's a pointed oval or vesica shape, with legend 'Aulam Clare Pia Pege Semper Virgo Maria' (Aulam being abbreviated with a macron). The Lady of Clare in the centre holds the foundation document with its large pendent seal in her right hand, & the book of statutes in her left. She is presenting these to the kneeling Master & Fellows. Above are the Virgin Mary & Child Jesus, St John the Baptist holding an Agnus Dei, & St John the Evangelist with his eagle. The shield at the bottom represents the final arms of the Lady of Clare, adopted from then onwards by the college. To left & right are the royal arms of England & of Leon & Castile, representing the Lady's maternal grandparents, Edward I & Eleanor of Castile.

Once upon a time there were two princes... 'William and the Werewolf' was translated from French into Middle English c.1350, then into modern English & illustrated by Michael Smith. He's his new book publication with @Unbound, and needs only a few more subscribers for the press to start rolling...

The wine-trading , which sank in the c.1469, has just returned to - in 2,500 pieces, after in Portsmouth by the team. Now to find a site for reassembly & display of this great future tourist attraction! Superb storytelling & imagery in the 3 min video at https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-64151535
