I picked this up at Fantasycon to see whether I wanted to subscribe. It’s superb! It’s hard to pick a single standout story, but I loved ‘The Alien Invasion’ by Ely Percy, and ‘Space’ by John Buchan (‘author of ‘The 39 Steps’). @shorelineofinfinity#sf#sciencefiction#shortstories#bookstodon@bookstodon
Virgil Finlay book jacket for this Andre Norton edited anthology from World Publishing Co., 1953. Plus a preliminary painting for same which was completely rethought. #FinlayFriday
The Diemen Alexander by Marie Hietz has just been released! Set in Hobart, it's SF featuring zoology, comparative anatomy and venture capitalism. It also explores the ethics of human responsibility towards animals, the earth and each other, and the truth that power goes to the person most prepared to wield it.
Described as "Jurassic Park meets ET - in the best possible way.’
Crossing Raukawa Moana next week to visit Te Wai Pounamu. Lots of reading time, so loading up on a theme. Cats are evil mass murderers, so @scalzi s Starter Villain & Tom Mead's Murder Wheel are both apt, and the unique ancient fauna of #Aotearoa needs to be saved from them, so KPS also fits.
There's a problem with "Starter Villain" though. How could anyone claim that the idea of cats as macchiavellian murderous managers is FICTION? 🤔 #ebooks#sf#mystery#AmReading@bookstodon
Sooo excited to see this book nearing its day in the spotlight! Kaisa was a delight to supervise as a PhD student, and we had so many wonderful conversations about things #enactive while she was writing.
Yay, I just finished the third chapter of my #SF novel, in which my washed-up protagonist is found in a dank London pub and called back to duty with the offer of just revenge.
This writing-in-the-morning thing is certainly working for me. 😊
I hope you’re all having success with your own writing goals as well. :blobcatcoffee:
