ditto! I should submit a feature request to #libby that when that dialog comes up to postpone a book, it should show you everything else you've postponed (and requested) and the estimated avail date...
i #AmReading Howards End by E. M. Forster and he's like the meme "but he can hurt you in other ways":
The feudal ownership of land did bring dignity, whereas the modern ownership of movables is reducing us again to a nomadic horde. We are reverting to the civilization of luggage, and historians of the future will note how the middle classes accreted possessions without taking root in the earth, and may find in this the secret of their imaginative poverty.
i'll admit, it's quite a pivot from danger-dragons-daggers fairy tale i've read recently, but i've had it at the back of my mind for a couple of weeks now after we had Zadie Smith's On Beauty in book club (Zadie was great, as always!).
it's good even though i'd appreciate it better during winter time and without 3 booker nominees i hoarded yesterday waiting for me in #libby 😬 #books#bookstodon@bookstodon
i #AmReading Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros, and it's soooo gooood! i usually listen to audiobooks before bed and i get sleepy after 15-30 mins. not with this book, i do not 😁 it's so packed with action and drama and dragons and danger and daggers pew pew pew (why does everything start on a D? 🤔)
i appreciate especially how cool the protagonist is with her sexuality and body, and she has flaws, how refreshing 😁
ugh, this makes me so anxious! i'm 45% in and during these ~4 hours i've had a constant feeling that something bad is about to happen. like she'd get hurt or get caught or get exposed 😱
i feel sympathy for Alex, but why does she do all that to herself? i hope it will be more clear in the end.
(update: it didn't become more clear in the end. in fact, the end was abrupt and meaningless, i felt like i suffered for nothing)
i didn't expect to like it as much as i did. i found characters in Normal People shallow and pretentious, so i thought Conversations would be similar. i've picked it because nothing more interesting was available in #Libby in audio at the moment, and – ta-da! – it was so good! it may have something to do with the format – i might appreciate Rooney's writing better in audio than in print, and the narration was just perfect #books#bookstodon@bookstodon
