Last week we have launched our first batch of Spanish Prize Papers online. Materials from and relating to 130 Spanish ships taken by the British in the 1740s are now in our Prize Papers Portal.

We had the honour of welcoming the Spanish Ambassador and a Spanish delegation at The National Archives to our launch event.

A selection of case studies are now available on the project’s website: https://www.prizepapers.de/case-studies/case-study-spanish-ships

Handwriting help. Can anyone make out this person's name?

[It's from a phrenological report of George Lansbury MP (!)]

Lord of a Visible World: An Autobiography in Letters

In Lord of a Visible World, the editors have amassed and arranged the letters of this prolific writer into the story of his life. The volume traces Lovecraft's upbringing in Providence, Rhode Island, his involvement with the pulp magazine Weird Tales, his short-lived marriage, and his later status as the preeminent man of letters in his field.

Today is so I blogged about the Alice Thornton (1626-1797) letters we have found. While Thornton is best known for writing four books about her life, we know that she frequently communicated by letter and we have been able to trace 26 of her holograph letters, with the latest written only a year before her death. https://thornton.kdl.kcl.ac.uk/posts/blog/2023-09-01-Thornton-Letters/

It's great to hear that there are still people in this world who read books with 600 and more pages :)

I am very grateful for this review.
