Re Drew Barrymore crossing the picket line:

https://mastodon.social/

Remember that once non-WGA writers cross the picket line, they won't be able to join the union later, should they want or need to. It's worth reminding them of this.

Drew Barrymore is not only scabbing with her show, she's hosting the National Book Awards, with Oprah Winfrey as the Special Guest.

Please show solidarity with union workers at large and let the National Book Foundation that you are not okay with a scab hosting these awards; scabbing hurts everyone; screenwriters are writers too.

Kate Hudson: "Strikes are supposed to be inconvenient. They are painful. They are also incredibly necessary to prove the point that someone’s labor is important and valuable and must be fairly compensated and protected. Scabbing is bootlicking in the worst possible way. It is selfish, and it is anti-labor."

An update from the National Book Foundation, regarding Drew Barrymore crossing picket lines for writers.

tl;dr: they aren't siding with the striking writers so much as shying from the bad publicity.

Still, it works.

So the thing gets worse and worse.

The woman is Hollywood royalty, one of her grandmothers picketed with actors and crew in 1919 and here she is. Scabbing.

This on the same day that property developer Tim Gurner says this shit in a public venue: the robber barons don't want the rabble being uppity and wanting living wages, reasonable hours, child labor laws, or hope.

Tweet by Ken Kippenstein (timestamp 2:06pm Sep 12 2023), showing a clip from the Finantial Times "Property Summit" where a man identified as Tim Gurner (founder and CEO, Gurner Group) is sitting on a stage and grimacing. Text of the tweet: Property developer and CEO Tim Gurner: "We need to see unemployment rise. Unemployment has to jump 40, 50, percent in my view We need to see pain in the economy. We need to remind people that they work for the employers, not the other way around"
Another tweet from Ken Klippenstein, same image, quoting Tim Gurner again: "There's been a systematic change where employees feel the employer is extremely lucky to have them, as opposed to the other way around. We've got to kill that attitude and that has to come through hurting the economy."
Last tweet from Ken Klippenstein, again quoting Tim Gurner: "Governments around the world are trying to increase unemployment to get that to some sort of normality...We're starting to see less arrogance in the employment market, and that has to continue."
