ICYMI: HalfPrice Books union is trying to negotiate for living wages, and their corporate entity has told them that they can afford to pay employees more, but they just won't.
Remember that once non-WGA writers cross the picket line, they won't be able to join the union later, should they want or need to. It's worth reminding them of this.
Drew Barrymore is not only scabbing with her show, she's hosting the National Book Awards, with Oprah Winfrey as the Special Guest.
Please show solidarity with union workers at large and let the National Book Foundation that you are not okay with a scab hosting these awards; scabbing hurts everyone; screenwriters are writers too.
Kate Hudson: "Strikes are supposed to be inconvenient. They are painful. They are also incredibly necessary to prove the point that someone’s labor is important and valuable and must be fairly compensated and protected. Scabbing is bootlicking in the worst possible way. It is selfish, and it is anti-labor."
The woman is Hollywood royalty, one of her grandmothers picketed with actors and crew in 1919 and here she is. Scabbing.
This on the same day that property developer Tim Gurner says this shit in a public venue: the robber barons don't want the rabble being uppity and wanting living wages, reasonable hours, child labor laws, or hope.
If you have a few dollars to spare, please toss them here (and share to widen the reach; many people donating a few dollars can get this taken care of in no time):
After a certain level of privilege, all sense of proportion is lost. #DrewBarrymoreIsAScab; she could easily support her production crew out of pocket and not notice. Instead, she's bound and determined to continue scabbing, while crying that people are calling her out on her actions.
How dare the peasants point out the empress has no clothes.
#WGA seem to have reached a tentative agreement for a new collective contract.
Here's the message, shared on twitter by Adam Conover (of "Adam Ruins Everything"):
"We did it. We have a tentative deal.
Over the coming days, we'll discuss and vote on it, together, as a democratic union. But today, I want to thank every single WGA member, and every fellow worker who stood with us in solidarity. You made this possible. Thank you. #WGAStrong #SupportUnions#SupportWorkers
