"Indeed they would have chopt up little Bakkhos [#Dionysos] a baby still piecemeal in the distracted flood of their vagabond madness, had not #Hermes come on wing and stolen Bakkhos again with a robber's untracked footsteps."

Happy #SaintNicholasDay. What if Hermes brought the gifts? Would he gives us what we want, what we need, or what the mischievous god finds the most funny?

"#Nike, giver of sweetness, to you the father, son of Ouranos (Uranus), on his high bench has granted glorious honour, so that in gold-rich Olympos you stand beside #Zeus and judge the outcome of prowess for immortals and mortals: be gracious, daughter of thick-tressed, right-judging Styx."

"Now when the dead have come to the place where each is led by his daimon i.e. [#Hermes], first they are judged and sentenced, as they have lived well and piously, or not. And those who are found to have lived neither well nor ill, go to the Acheron." #Plato, Phaedros 112e

#Hera, #Aphrodite, and #Athena present themselves for the Trojan prince Paris to judge their beauty. Aphrodite is disrobing for him to show him the goods. #Hermes had guided them and apparently decided to stick around to sneak a peek.

For #AllHallows, have a relief of #Hermes in his role as #psychopomp. Hermes guides the souls of the dead to the underworld. Here, he takes the hand of a dead woman named Myrrhine on the way down to Hades.

A late #DayOfZeus entry today because I didn't manage to post before work:
It's the birth of #Athena: The tiny goddess jumps from #Zeus' head in full armour!
On the left, #Hermes and a rare bearded #Apollon watch the scene. On the right, an unknown goddess and #Ares look on.

#Mosaic of #Hermes-Mercurius, easily recognisable by the wings on his head, representing the planet Mercury or the fourth day of the ancient Roman week, diēs Mercuriī (Wednesday).

@antiquidons#Astronomy and calendars are the domain of #Hermes. His grandfather Atlas turns the heavenly constellations and his mother Maia is one of the starry Pleiades.
Atlas instructed him in astronomy and the Greek mythographer Euhemeros says that #Aphrodite first established the constellations and taught Hermes. The planet #Mercury is attributed to Hermes because he first established the months and perceived the courses of the constellations.
#Hermes looks up at the sky as he ascends from the underworld. The constellation Virgo greets him with shining stars. It will be another 420 years before it's the lion marking summer's end. Hermes pulls his cloak tighter and leaps into the chilly air. Autumn is here.
Hipparchos was better in math than I'll ever be. But maybe the read was entertaining? If so, support this poor writer by joining her #Patreon: https://patreon.com/aimeemaroux
This is a comedic short involving #Ares and #Hermes I wrote for a friend when they were feeling down. Can Ares open himself up to experimentation like his girl Aphrodite suggested?

#Hermes as a UPS delivery man, a visual joke from the music video of Hermes' #DestripandoLaHistoria song by Spanish musicians and animators Pascu and Rodri. The song retells many of Hermes' myths like the theft of Apollo's cows, the slaying of Argos, and the birth of Orion.
