Not just men can party - not even in #ancientGreece - as this female reveller proves. She is playing the popular party game kottabos, flinging drops of wine sediment at a target not seen here.

This statuette is a variant of the #Aphrodite Anadyomene type. Her eyes are inlaid with glass paste. The pose may have been inspired by a famous painting of Aphrodite Anadyomene by Apelles, court painter of Alexander the Great.
🏛️ Aphrodite bronze, 2nd-1st century BCE. Today in the MET, New York.

#Aphrodite Anadyomene, Aphrodite Rising from the Sea, as depicted in an #Egyptian blue faience statuette. Egyptian faience (tjehenet in ancient Egyptian) is a ceramic material that gets a glassy look from quartz reacting with alkali.

It's #FannyFriday, the day I invite everyone to post #vulva art along with me.
Here, #Eros is helping two women remove their pubic hair to be extra sexy. Yes, this goes back to antiquity. Eros and the woman behind him are using an oil lamp to burn off the hair. The bristly pubes growing back earned the vulva the nickname "piggy" in acient Greek.

A rare #fresco of Aphrodite Anadyomene, Aphrodite/Venus rising from the sea. The goddess is in the nude, wringing out her hair. Note her beautiful jewellery!
For #FannyFriday I bring you a special photo I took on my #museum trip yesterday: #Aphrodite inspired by the Aphrodite of #Knidos — copies were forbidden by the Knidonians! She is special to me because not only is she beautiful and wears a cool arm ring, the artist has also added a slit to the pubic triangle. I very rarely see this and it filled me with excitement and joy when I discovered it 🥰
