“A Texas woman was just forced to beg for life-saving health care in court and now any doctor who provides her the care she urgently needs is being threatened with punishment including a lifetime prison sentence,” Escobar said…. “This story is shocking, it’s horrifying, and it’s heartbreaking.”

The Texas Supreme Court and Ken Paxton continue to prevent Kate Cox from an abortion she needs to protect her life. https://www.texastribune.org/2023/12/08/texas-abortion-lawsuit-ken-paxton/

Ohio Republicans are claiming a constitutional amendment protecting abortion rights, which was approved by voters in Tuesday’s election, doesn’t actually do that — and they’re promising to take steps to prevent the legal protection of reproductive freedom in the state. https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/ohio-republicans-stop-issue-1-abortion-rights-1234875333/

@RollingStone it would be good to look at all the ways the GOP undermines democracy, call it the GOP assault on democracy. In #oregon the gop minority walked out for over 6 weeks effectively killing our short legislative session. Then a voter approved measure that disallows running again because of excessive absenteeism is challenged. I’m sure this is the modus operandi in many states. #orpol #democracy #ohio #reproductiverights #healthcare #abortionrights

From NBC news:

Ohio has followed many other states; voters are not enamored of Republican politicians policing their uteruses.

Dems need to run hard on freedom to choose in 2024 at every level in every race, despite the fact that a good couple of media pundits keep claiming the power and importance of this issue is winding down or limited. It isn’t.

"This is not the first period in U.S. history when white men have exercised control over women’s right to bear – or not bear – children, including during slavery. Then, it was a matter of numbers...White men controlled people’s reproductive rights during the 20th century, too, with the American eugenics movement."
