So I have one observation about the ending:

:::spoiler Spoiler alert if you haven’t seen it yet I have seen a good amount of discussion on what is going on here, and agree with a lot of it, but there is one detail I haven’t seen anyone mention (and maybe I missed it somehow) but when she goes out to clean the bodies of the sheriff and his wife don’t appear to be out there, but they do show up in the silo feed. Is this just because of what she is seeing in her helmet or are the bodies gone? How true is the feed from the the silo? :::

Kyle ,

I feel like really good adaptations tend to find different ways of reaching the same main plot points, the adaptation differences remind me a lot of how the expanse did it. It makes it really exciting for book readers because it’s keeping us on our toes, my head was often spinning wondering how Juliet was going to make it past the ridge because it didn’t seem like she was going to get the better tape.

Could you explain that to me? What was the point of the “better tape”, I didn’t catch the point of that?

Kyle ,

I.T. supplies the suit and tape for assembling the suit. In the show, the new mayor mentions multiple times how upset he was that mechanical stole their tape. I feel like Juliet only mentioned once that she found out that the tape from I.T. was really poor quality and therefore of no use to Juliet for important mechanical needs. We were supposed to notice the tape was used on the seals of the suit where the gloves and shoes meet the suit. We were supposed to surmise that the shitty I.T. tape made the suits fail far earlier than they should. Juliet’s friend from mechanical somehow figured that out and got supply to do a switcheroo and send the high quality mechanical tape to I.T. so when they make Juliet’s suit she isn’t prematurely exposed to the hazard outside and could therefore make it past the ridge.

I think the books did a much better job of explaining this and of course a totally different route to get to this point, but all books are more detailed than visual adaptations.

What I don’t understand about the ending is this, if anyone has hypotheses (or knows from the books):

spolierWhy do they project a green world in the helmet of those who go out? Doesn’t it defeat the purpose?

willmo ,

::Spoiler Spoiler:: The theory is, is that when someone goes out to clean, they’re completely stunned in amazement how green and full of “life” outside looks - considering they’ve been seeing a dead world their whole lives within the silo. This is what drives them to clean, they think they need to show everyone what they see in their visor so they clean the sensor.
