I like the idea of defederation, but conflicted about it's use in practice..
I am still playing around with Lemmy like I am sure a lot of people are. I have accounts on multiple instances to see how things are and what not....

Hi all,...
Hi, I used to be the moderator of the (now dead) LibreOffice community. After a while, I kinda forgot about Lemmy and went back to lurking Reddit, using Teddit and RedReader. In light of the API protests, I decided to come back here to see how Lemmy was doing, and I’m surprised by the amount of users it’s getting!...
Whereas I might’ve been less generous with upvotes on Reddit, I think it’s important in these early formative stages to let others know that I appreciate their contributions. I hope it encourages growth and activity!
It’s easy to discover communities on my instance via the dedicated page in the hamburger menu. But let’s say I want to follow a community on another instance, such as !lemmy . I might have found its name mentioned in a post or comment. When I click on the provided link, I’m thrown on that instances web page, from which I...
We are happy to see that many of you are exploring Lemmy after Reddit announced changes to its API policy. I maintain this project alongside @dessalines....
When reading posts sorted by date, I often have the timeline import a whole bunch of old posts from one community at the top. This is annoying since I basically have to reload the page, otherwise all relevant content is gone....
What are the recommended specs, dimensions, etc for the icon and banner we create for a new instance?
Lemmy is structured in a way that backend (database, api, federation etc) and frontend (html, css, javascript) are completely separate. This makes it possible to create other frontends which can take the place of lemmy-ui. I have long been playing with the thought of having a Lemmy frontend that looks more like a traditional...
That’s all I ask for 0.19.0

I think it’s one feature missing from all the text-based websites. I do not watch videos at all. I use text-based media because I cannot interact with else than text and images. It would further improve the speed at which you load the website and improve content quality for all the other people who do not interact with video...
I know there’s a purge function, but i had a problem currently with people posting porn picture in my instance(which is not allowed), then later edit out the link so i couldn’t get the picture purged as well. Is there a way to do it?
I currently have to use this CSS overload with the Stylus extension to avoid having videos (and also gifs since they are converted to mp4 videos by Lemmy) stretched to fill the whole page width:...
The idea for me is to build a client which is solely focused on media consumption....
This is something pretty small but extremely annoying....
Down with the algorithm telling us what to read. I just want to see most recent first. Thanks.
I’ve read some people saying that it’s better. How has it changed?
I’m subscribed to quite a few communities now but my subscribed feed is still pretty barren. Whether I sort by hot or active I’m seeing the same few posts a lot of the time, often with very few upvotes or comments. I also see months old posts popping up again and again. There is a post on one community with -39 score from 8...
Is there a way to fold the comments besides the minus on top?...
Wanting to make a wiki for /c/localllama, but not sure if there’s a known place that’s nice for making free wikis, anyone got suggestions on what’s being used widely on lemmy?
It’s come up in the github issues before, but I was wondering if anyone had any positive or negative thoughts about the general idea....
In a comment I wrote, I was surprised to see something I didn’t write showing up, in the form of a third dot....
That’s three major instances that have gone down in the last couple days. Clearly u/spez is trying to kill lemmy.
Any future plans on developing lemmy video upload support?
