I have never been much of a sci-fi fan, but if you throw in some ghostly apparitions and a mystery, you'll grab my attention. My review of Hellweg's Keep by Justin Holley is posted at https://wellwortharead.blogspot.com/2023/08/hellwegs-keep-by-justin-holley.html

You might enjoy this book about a curse on several generations of women more than I did. I was hoping for something spookier.

My is brief/won't spoil, to spread good, great, & spectacular far & wide.

This is a rather uneven, somewhat bleak collection but I enjoyed the hell out of the first 2 of these 5 stories (& only one tale was "eh," imo.) Malerman is super prolific & there's plenty here to entertain, but I didn't enjoy SPIN A BLACK YARN as much as some other books of his. (Del Rey)

@stina_marie @horror @bookstodon @horrorbooks I only really liked 3 out of the 5 stories

@stina_marie @horror I liked the first one with the bratty sister, and the one with the guy on his deathbed. My favorite was the snobby rich couple with the house washer thing. I didn't really care for the other 2 and can't even remember what they were right now LOL

A small group of friends have turned their love of horror movies into a semi-famous YouTube channel. When a bootleg copy of an obscure film mysteriously appears in the studio it's like a dream come true. They can't wait to watch, and film an episode about it. So what if it's rumored to be cursed? It's only a movie right? My review is posted at https://wellwortharead.blogspot.com/2023/08/bad-movie-night-by-patrick-lacey.html

What are some things you miss that they don't make anymore? Whether it's a tv show or a food, it seems like they quit making everything I like. I miss the R.L. Stine show The Haunting Hour. It was scarier than the more child friendly goosebumps show. I wish they had made more. Anyway I just finished reading Stinetinglers 2 You don't have to be a kid to get a giggle or a shiver from these tales. yes, so many good shows are gone! and usually, they just leave you hanging with no ending because they didn't know they were going to get canceled.

@stina_marie @bookstodon Enjoy! One of the stories (Last Dare) is one that I read in another of her collections, and it was still worth reading again.

Do you like weird fiction? Strange Tales? These novellas are not necessarily horror, but they do bite when you least expect it. 4 out of 5 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 to Spin a Black Yarn by Josh Malerman. My review is posted at

5 stars to The Dead Pennies by Robert Ford
This was a chilling, multifaceted, ghost story. The spine tingling suspense comes from both the living and the dead. My full review is posted at https://wellwortharead.blogspot.com/2023/07/the-dead-pennies-by-robert-ford.html @bookstodon
